Granola peanut butter crunchies

What dog doesn’t love peanut butter? Granola peanut butter crunchies are a great way to satisfy those cravings and add nutritious foods to the mix. (The smell is irresistible too.) The crunchies can be broken into smaller pieces; On our park trips, I only put one pair in my pocket to treat all three of my dogs. Whole or broken, they pack a lot of flavor. Homemade peanut butter is great, but store bought is fine too (see this easy peanut butter recipe). I used an almond / coconut milk mix for even more flavor and for dogs that may be lactose intolerant.

  • 2 cups uncooked organic oatmeal (not immediately)
  • ¼ cup pumpkin seeds
  • ¼ cup sunflower seeds
  • 1 tablespoon. linseed
  • ¼ cup shredded coconut or coconut flakes
  • 2 TBSP. (or more) chopped dried fruits like apricots, pears, apples, blueberries
  • 1 tablespoon. Coconut oil
  • 1 tablespoon. honey
  • 1 egg, lightly beaten
  • 1¼ cups unsalted peanut butter (preferably homemade)
  • ¾ cup of almond milk or low-fat yogurt
  • Optional: 1 tsp. turmeric

Substitutions: Grated vegetables like carrots or zucchini can be used in place of the fruit.


Preheat the oven to 325 °. Line a rimmed baking sheet with parchment paper or a silicone baking mat or butter and dust with flour.

Lightly grind all of the seeds in a food processor or blender. Combine the dry ingredients in a medium bowl. Heat the coconut oil and honey long enough to soften. Beat an egg in a small bowl. Put the peanut butter (preferably at room temperature) in a food processor, add almond milk or yoghurt and process. Add egg, oil and honey, process again.

Add the wet ingredients to the dry and mix with a wooden spoon. The mixture should hold together well enough to be easily formed into balls. If it seems too wet, add some whole wheat bread. Shape into 1½-inch balls and place on the baking sheet; They can be close together. Bake for 30 to 40 minutes or until golden brown.

(Optional: Turn halfway through each granola ball so that it browns evenly.) Let cool on a rack and store in an airtight container. These goodies can also be frozen.

Makes about 3 dozen
