Greta Thunberg was named Person of the Year 2019 by Time Magazine

Exactly the news the world needs right now! Greta Thunberg, the 16-year-old climate activist and voice of millions of concerned citizens, was named Time Magazine Person of Year 2019. Greta is the youngest person to ever receive this honor and deserves this recognition and much more. As Edward Felsenthal, Editor-in-Chief of Time, said of her election: “She was a solo protester 14 months ago with a hand-painted sign. It has now drawn millions of people around the world in 150 countries to act on behalf of the planet. “

We heard about Greta’s work about a year ago and profiled her with this wonderful photo of her and her beloved dogs. What she and the millions of young people who have been inspired by her have achieved is remarkable. But, as we know, we all have to do so much to convince policymakers and those behind them that we need solutions now – our planet is melting before our eyes. Every day we hear from scientists that their previous estimates were wrong and that we don’t have much time to make meaningful changes. Let’s hope the officials, especially in this country that is responsible for so much of this destruction, listen and stop denying the climate crisis. We welcome the choice of Time this year and can only hope that it is not too late. Everyone can do something now and must understand that, like Greta, we can help. As Time wrote, “Climate protection politics is as deeply rooted and complex as the phenomenon itself, and Thunberg has no magical solution. But she has succeeded in bringing about a global change in attitudes that has transformed millions of vague fears in the middle of the night into a worldwide movement that calls for urgent change. “
