Social media sensation Boo the Pomeranian died in his sleep at the age of 12. With 10.5 million Facebook followers, Boo was a star. In addition to his popular Facebook page, Boo has appeared on several television shows on a calendar and has been the subject of four picture books. One of them, Boo: The life of the cutest dog in the worldhas been translated into 10 languages. There’s even a basic stuffed animal in his likeness.
Known as the cutest dog in the world, Boo could easily have been considered a stuffed animal himself. His huge forehead, his big eyes, his open mouth with his slightly protruding pink tongue and his trained head tail are exactly the characteristics to which we humans react naturally. Our brains and hearts see this kind of face and do anything but scream, “Oh, so cute!”
Boo’s guards believe he died of a broken heart. His best friend, a Pomeranian named Buddy, died in 2017 at the age of 14. Boo developed heart problems after losing Buddy. Both dogs were far from young, so it is not easy to convince someone that a broken heart due to a loss over a year ago was the real cause of death. There is no doubt, however, that Boo’s family and the many fans who loved him are heartbroken themselves. In response to the post announcing Boo’s death, there are over 57,000 messages of support showing how important this little man’s life was to so many.
